Slither.io is basically a game that you’ll learn to play in a matter of seconds but at the same time it’s a game that you will probably end up playing for hours upon hours because of how addictive it is. It is kind of like an endless runner game in the sense that there’s no set in stone objective for you to achieve.
The gameplay of Slither.io revolves around starting off with a pretty tiny snake and then eating the dots scattered throughout the playing area to keep growing larger and larger. It might sound pretty easy but the challenge comes from the fact that you’re not the only one on the playing area. You’ll have to compete for the food against lots of other players and will constantly have to make sure that you don’t end up getting outmaneuvered. If you end up running headfirst into another snake then you’ll die and will have to start from scratch.
Slither.io might feel a bit clunky at start due to the snake being slightly difficult to turn at times but this has been done to maintain balanced gameplay and you’ll probably get used to it pretty quickly. The game might be easy to learn but it has a very high skill-cap since there are lots of advanced strategies that you can learn to outplay your opponents and make them crash. The benefit of making your opponents crash is that upon crashing their entire snake turns into food that you can consume to grow even bigger. Perhaps the most common strategy is finding a snake that’s smaller than you and slowly wrapping yourself around it so that it gets stuck and doesn’t have any way to get out but alongside this there are various other strategies as well that you’ll eventually learn the more you play the game.
For tough situations in which an opponent is trying to force you into a situation in which you’ll end up losing your life, there’s a pretty useful boost power that you can use to get a temporary burst of speed. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that your snake loses a little bit of its length every time you use boost so it’s best to use it sparingly and only when absolutely necessary.
In terms of visuals, Slither.io looks pretty neat. The game uses a simple and straightforward art style that makes it easy on the eyes and also makes sure that the visuals don’t distract players from the actual gameplay. The colors are pretty good looking, there are some very neat glowing effects and overall everything’s been presented very nicely.
The game is completely free to play and doesn’t have any micro-transactions so you can play it whenever you want for as long as you want.
Slither.io is a fantastic game that you’ll probably keep coming back to whenever you have a bit of time to spare.
