If you’ve heard the name Fishdom before then you’re probably an avid player of match-3 games on bigfish. The Fishdom series has actually been around for a while on the PC platform and with this particular game it’s finally found its way onto mobile devices as well. Fishdom: Deep Dive delivers the same high quality gameplay that we’ve come to expect from this series and it couples this with a bunch of content that’s exclusive to the mobile version to make for an enjoyable experience.
The tutorial sequence of Fishdom: Deep Dive is very well executed and makes sure that players never have to be at a loss of information while playing the game. Upon getting into the game for the first time you’ll be taken through a bunch of tutorial levels that have been built to explain the mechanics of the game to new players. The great thing about these tutorial levels is that they’re short and simple so you’ll be done with them in a matter of minutes and will be able to progress further.
As for the gameplay, Fishdom: Deep Dive doesn’t take any big risks to innovate or revolutionize the genre in any way. The game bases itself on the same formula that’s been used in this series for a while now and this is actually a good thing because this particular formula has lead to some pretty enjoyable match-3 games that we absolutely loved going through. The gameplay revolves around completing the objective that you’ll be assigned at the beginning of each level. The objectives can be things as simple as reaching a certain amount of points or they can be something as challenging as creating specific matches on a specified area of the playing area. There’s a pretty insane variety of objectives and the game keeps cycling through them with each level to make sure that the gameplay remains fresh and interesting.
Onto the power-ups department, you won’t find any unique power-ups in Fishdom: Deep Dive that you wouldn’t be able to find in other cookie-cutter match-3 games. However, as always, the power-ups are very impactful and when used properly they have the potential to swing the tide of any level in your favor no matter how grim the situation may look.
Of course Fishdom: Deep Dive wouldn’t be a Fishdom game if it didn’t come with its very own aquarium that players can decorate and build up however they please. There’s an insane variety of fish to place in the aquarium, loads of decorations to set up and even more aquariums to purchase so all this serves as a really nice distraction when you want to take a break from the regular match-3 gameplay.
Going into the visuals, Fishdom: Deep Dive is a delight to look at. The game is filled with many beautiful underwater environments that look absolutely phenomenal. The backgrounds are animated, the objects look sharp, the special effects are really high quality, the color palette is bright and overall the game definitely excels in terms of visuals.
Since this particular release of Fishdom: Deep Dive is for the mobile platform, it comes with its fair share of micro-transactions through which players can get their hands on in-game bonuses like extra lives and power-ups.
All said and done, we’ve been impressed with every single match-3 game that’s come from the Fishdom series thus far and this particular release seems to continue on that same trend.
